Cheryl Coppell has been Chief Executive of Slough Borough Council since February 1994 and became Chief Executive of Slough Unitary Authority in June 1997.

She has an extensive background in local government having worked for two county councils and a London Borough.

In particular, her work has focused on the management of change in local authorities to better serve local communities and a commitment to the promotion of social justice.

Since taking on the lead role in Slough, she has placed a strong emphasis on reflecting democracy in local government.  Based on a commitment to consultation and involvement, she has introduced a community planning process  to clarify the authority’s long-term direction,

She has spent much time working to develop a range of partnerships with other agencies to benefit the diverse communities of Slough.  Her role in leading a business partnership in the town has led to many successful initiatives that link the business sector with local communities.

As Chief Executive, she is leading the Heart of Slough initiative, a major regeneration project to create an international cultural quarter for local people and creative industries in the centre of Slough, gaining an increasingly high profile for the region.

Cheryl is actively involved in many regional and national initiatives.
